Gary Coburn’s sermon at the Destin Church of Christ focused on the days between Jesus’ ascension and Pentecost, reminding believers that the disciples were called to wait for the power of the Holy Spirit before carrying the gospel to the world. Using personal experiences and scriptures from John 16, Acts 1, Isaiah, Ezekiel, and 1 Corinthians, the lesson emphasized that God never intended Christians to rely solely on human strength, wisdom, or courage. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would dwell within believers, guiding, strengthening, and empowering them for His mission. Gary highlighted the dramatic transformation of Peter from a fearful disciple who denied Jesus into a bold preacher at Pentecost, showing the life-changing power of the Holy Spirit at work. The sermon also stressed that conviction and transformation belong to God, not to human persuasion. Christians are called to faithfully share the gospel while trusting the Holy Spirit to soften hearts and bring growth. The message concluded with a challenge for believers to live boldly, rely on God’s Spirit daily, and become willing vessels through whom Christ can work in the world today.
